The files on this page were all taken with one of my Minox cameras. Many of the resuling negatives were scanned in to my computer using my Minolta Dimage Scan Dual 35mm film scanner, with a film mask I created that is available for download here. Some of these files were done with the “scan to disk” option available from MPL.

My Trip to NORAD
Don’t Try This At Home! NORAD The warning sign is intimidating in and of itself. The sentries that walk the perimeter with live rounds are more so. Don’t attempt to just drive up there to get your own photos. If you did mange to get to the top parking lot, what would be waiting for you there would not be pleasant. 2001A Better View of the Main Gate NORAD I really want to thank Ric and the fantastic people of Delta Crew and the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center for their service and hospitality. If there is one thing that I learned within the walls of the mountain, it is that they are literally some of the most important people in the world. Because of the job they do, we can collect our cameras, play with our children, and live our uniquely American lifestyle. Thank You! 2001As Close As I Dared Get to the Fence NORAD I had explicit permission to take pictures. When I asked if I could get closer to the fence line, the response was not as explicit. Call me a wimp, but I wasn’t about to tempt the very capable guards. Note the deployable barrier to prevent running the gate. The “ropes” in the chain link fence are actually high-test steel cables. These prevent a saboteur from just ramming the fence to breach the perimeter. 2001A Better View of the Main Gate NORAD The razor wire and layered chain link are formidable. The bus coming out of the entrance is how crewmembers are transported in and out. We walked in, but took this bus out of the mountain. 2001The Mountain NORAD Another shot of the main entrance. This one was taken to show some perspective with the mountain. 2001From The Parking Lot NORAD I was given a very unique opportunity. My Aunt’s brother, Captain Richard K. Mayne USN, had been director of operations for some time at the Cheyenne Mountain Operations Center. He had just been informed that he was going to become the new Deputy Director of Operations for the U.S. Space Command. This meant if we were ever planning on coming to see the mountain, we had better do it then. I was asked specifically not to take my Minox cameras in with me (this would have been bad, with a capitol B!), so I didn’t even bother to take extra film. I was going to leave the camera in my luggage at the meeting point. Lo and behold, I find out pictures of the outside may not be out of the question. With only two shots left in a factory loaded cartridge, I just about had a fit. Fortunately the roll ran a bit long, and here are the results. A comparison of my EC and B
CITY & COUNTY BUILDING SLC, UT Camera: Minox B Film: Minocolor Pro 100 Processing: MPL scan to CD, Photoshop auto levels Due to the eccentricities of the meter (mostly age) the saturation is not as deep on this photo. This is in reality my fault, but is something to consider while comparing. This could have been corrected in Photoshop, but I left it for the purposes of this exercise. Despite the lowered saturation, note the difference in the figures at the top. The B seems to have a slight advantage in the details. 2001CITY & COUNTY BUILDING SLC, UT Camera: Minox EC Film: Minocolor Pro 100 Processing: MPL scan to CD, Photoshop auto levels My feeling on this is that for a point and shoot, the EC is fantastic. For better pictures, with more effort, go with the B.
